About Winchester and Headbourne Worthy

With a history dating back to Roman times, when the town was known Venta Belgarum, there's no shortage of things to see and do around Winchester. Not only was it once the capital of England, but it was the seat of Kind Alfred the Great, but it is also home to a Norman Cathedral which boasts the longest nave in Europe, Wolsey Castle, and the Great Hall, which is home to what was once claimed to be King Arthur's Round Table.

Further afield history buffs might like to take a day-trip to Stonehenge, which is just half an hour away. You may also wish to visit the Iron Age hillfort at Danebury.

Those who like to get out into the countryside might take walk up St. Catherine's Hill to take in the views over the city, and if you're really energetic you can take to the South Downs Way to explore the National Park.

The city has lots of excellent restaurants and once boasted more pubs per square mile than anywhere in the country. Recet additions to the Wincehster dining scene include offerings from Hugh Fearnley-Wittingstall and Rick Stein.

Headbourne Worthy, although a village, never-the-less has plenty of offer. The Good Life Farm Shop Café is very popular with locals, and the recently opened Winchester Golf Academy is not only a world-class golf practice and coaching facility, but is also home to the Little Kitchen Bistro, which is open for breakfasts, lunches and teas. Both the Good Life and the Little Kitchen Bistro are within walking distance, though the latter is something of an uphill walk so you may prefer to drive the quarter mile.
